<p>Hard Times is a novel written by Charles Dickens and first published in 1854. Set in the fictional industrial town of Coketown, the novel follows the lives of several characters as they struggle to survive in a society driven by utilitarianism and the mechanization of human emotions. The central theme of the novel is the detrimental effects of industrialization and the pursuit of material wealth on human relationships and individual happiness.
