<p>A songbird hears an understudy grumbling that his teacher's girl won't hit the dance floor with him, as he can't give her a red rose. The songbird visits every one of the rose-trees in the nursery, and one of the white roses advise her that there's a method for delivering a red rose, however provided that the songbird is ready to sing the best tune for the rose the entire evening, and penance her life to do as such. Seeing the understudy in tears, the songbird completes the custom, and skewers herself on the rose-tree's thistle with the goal that her heart's blood can stain the rose. The understudy takes the rose to the teacher's little girl, yet she again dismisses him on the grounds that another man has sent her a few genuine gems, and "everyone realizes that gems cost undeniably more than blossoms."
